5-ALA, officially called 5-Aminolevulinic Acid, is an amino acid that is widely found in plants and animals naturally, and is the raw material for synthesis of heme, a component that is important for life-sustaining activities. Heme has the ability to stimulate energy production.

5-ALA used in this product is produced via microbial fermentation method.

Proteins in the human body are composed of 20 alpha-type amino acids, but 5-ALA is classified as a delta-type amino acid that is not used to build protein.
5-ALA is a non-coded or non-proteinogenic amino acid. Many non-proteinogenic amino acids are important in biosynthesis, physiological role etc. in the body.

No. However, heme which is produced from 5-ALA is the “active component” of various enzymes. Please see “About 5-ALA” for further details.

Human cells cannot produce vitamin B12 (Cobalamin). However, intestinal bacteria are able to produce it from 5-ALA.

Sodium ferrous citrate is an ingredient used to fortify iron concentration in food. Several minerals are added such as sodium ferrous citrate to maximize 5-ALA value.

We call it excipient instead, which is inert (chemically inactive).

Excipients in this product included Starch and Silicon Dioxide. HPMC is the plant-derived material as capsule shell composition and Titanium Dioxide as the colorant of it.
